Lord Brahma belongs to the Hindu trinity along with Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Lord Brahma is theologically known as a single letter AUM. According to the Brahma Purana, he is regarded as the father of Manu, from which all human beings are descended. Lord Saraswati is the wife of Lord Brahma. Unlike Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, He is not so popularly known. There are very few temples dedicated to His worship.
The most prominent one is the Brahma temple at Pushkar.
As per Hindu cosmology, Brahma is supposed to have born through Vishnu’s navel. It is believed that Vishnu first created a lotus through His navel from which Brahma originated. Another legend says that He is born from water. According to the legend, while creating universe Brahman first created water and placed his seed in it that get transformed into a golden egg and from which Lord Brahma appeared. So He is known as Hiranyagarbha.
During the process of the creation of universe, Brahma gave birth to ten sons or Prajapatis, popularly known as Manas Putras and one daughter from His mind. Also He is known as the father of Saptarishi, the seven great sages of the universe.
Traditionally Lord Brahma is depicted with four heads, four faces, four arms, long white beard and red skin. He is believed to chatter one of the four Vedas with each of His head. Unlike other Gods, He carries no weapon. Rather He holds a sceptre, a book of prayer, a spoon, a water-pot and a lotus flower. He also holds a string of prayer beads. Lord Brahma sits on a lotus and moves around on a white swan.
It is believed according to Hindu mythology that one cannot afford to lose the blessings of Lord Brahma. People worship Brahma for popularity, creativity and knowledge.
