Sri Krishna was the 8th son of Devaki and Vasudev. Kans was the King of Mathura city. He was very cruel. His tortures were increasing day by day. Once upon a divine voice come from sky, the 8th son of his sister Devaki will kill you. After listening to this, Kans put his sister Devaki in jail(Kaal-Kothari) with her husband Vasudev. Kansa killed 7 children of Devaki before Krishna. When Devaki gave birth to Krishna, Lord Vishnu ordered Vasudev to reach Sri Krishna to Yashoda Mata and Nand Baba in Gokul, where he could be safe from his maternal uncle Kansa. Krishna was grown up in the care of Yashoda Mata and Nand Baba. Since then, the festival of Janmashtami is celebrated every year since Krishna birth.
